I went to the wonderful Fort de Charters rendezvous today with full intentions of buying a few odds and ends and the obligatory sack of kettle corn.

Well, I came home with this:

A nice fella by the name of Rick Howard was selling a few guns, and this northwest trade gun just spoke to me.

It’s a 20 bore made off a Pecatonia River kit. I noticed how nicely it was made and it shouldered beautifully. Rick let me know it was brand new minus test firing and we struck up a deal right then and there.

I also bought a neat shooting pouch and some accessories from Larry Callahan including a ball puller and tow worm plus one of his bag molds for my .40 caliber squirrel rifle.

Great turnout at the fort today and had a great time conversing with the folks there. Sure didn’t think I’d buy a gun but am so excited to get this one to the range.

Thanks all!

Thats great!! I'm crazy about trade guns ... Let us know how it shoots ! Congrats and enjoy !

I'll say you did all right, my friend. I'm a long-time trade gun fan, and that one looks like a beauty! A buffalo powder horn, or a plain "trade" horn with a row of tacks around the base would look good with that outfit.

A full-length photo of the other side and a close-up of the lock would be welcome.

Those Northwest guns were built to be used. As much as you love to shoot, I have no doubt you will enjoy having it.

Great score Smokey. I too have been jonesing for a trade gun. It is funny how interests change. Many years ago when I first got into muzzle loading I thought smooth bore trade guns were ugly. Now I want one. I still don’t like the looks of club butt fowlers but who knows, if one showed up for the right price I might own it.

Wow!! A whole bag of kettle corn... haven't seen any for almost 3 years. I heard there are people who bought it before the shortage... bunch of "hoarders". See a bag on eBay for $70 but am waiting till the shortage is over. Some people have been know to make their own. Seems there are videos on YouTube on how to make it but seem kind of dangerous. Hope you didn't have to pay through the nose for yours. Nice trade gun too!!!!
