I finally finished the underhammer that I've been working on.
The barrel is an old Numrich minuteman flintlock barrel I reworked. It's a .45 Cal 34" barrel with 1-66.
I purchased the receiver and buttstock from BlueGrouse. The stock had to be reworked a little, I like a streight stock more the one with a pistol grip. The forestock was what made for a piece of the old minuteman stock. The barrel was stripped of blue and browned. This is the first gun I've ever built.
Can't wait to take it to the range Satuday morning. "http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h172/cannoneer/8ccae9d6.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting">

Cannoneer,

Not sure if you know what you have created, lock it away and close it up in the dark, and new barrels will appear. :rotf:

Nice looking rifle.

Very sweet! I like the light color of the stock and the shape of the forend! :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Like BS said, your going to end up with a bunch of barrels if your not carefull.

Holy Cow, it worked I locked it up for a few minutes and it turned into a 28" GM stainless .50 cal barrel with a 1-28.

Very purdy indeedy. Is that ram rod under the stock? Close up photos? Beware of putting the two barrels together. Nevery know what might happen.

Me big plenty like! :applause:

I am toying with building one for my wife in .40cal if she gets the ML bug. She is a southpaw so I figure an UH we can both shoot.

Both my other RB rifles are .40cal so it makes sense to keep them all the same.

Yup the forestock on the GM stainless has the ramrod under. The barrel came with an underrib already installed. I was wrong about the discrition of the first pic. The forestock on that one I got from Deer Creek and worked with with a rasp. The forestock on this one is from the old numrich gun.

I've never seen that configuration before. I like it! Your getting me thinking about carving up some wood.

I was going to buy one of these barrels, but.................a great buy at $125, too bad they are all gone.

Cannoneer considering your problems with that build youv done great, see poor man zep on my latest. Fred :hatsoff:

I have an original Numrich underhammer with the heavy barrel but I would like to build something like yours. What did you use for a breech plug? How old is your receiver kit? I heard his supply dried up. Is he now making his own?

I E mailed him the other day and he seems to be cutting his own and ran "off center" and it would be a few days, I got a box of the last of the Deer Creek frames the other day but Im thinkin of building "poormans 62 cal zeps" out of them, so Im shopping for frames also. John Taylor would be the best bet but he is behind on barrels right now(when your good your behind cause everyones "got to have this today" I guess, he did make a perfect 62 uh zep barrelf from one of the real zep barrel rejects for me.) We are even working on the MLBS action/frames. Fred :hatsoff:

The old numrich barrel I used was also heary. It's 34", 45 cal at 15/16 so there's a lot of metal in the barrel.
I used a grade 8, 5/8X18 bolt for the breech plug. It threaded in about 5/8". I cut off the head of the bolt and left about 5/8" for the receiver set screws to grab on to. If you use one of Bruces or Deer Creek receivers you have to cut about a 1/4 bevel on the botton end on the bolt where it goes into the receiver, so it desen't interfer with the internal hammer movement.

I had alot of great advice and direction from FW(Fred).
Bruce at Blue Grous is also a good source of information on undehammers.

Got the receiver from Blue Grouse the end of April. I was told it was from Deer Creek.
Last week I spoke to a very nice lady at Deer Creek, she said she still as a few fore stocks and butt stocks. But that's about it. If you have an old numrich underhammer. Try this web site, That still carry some numrich underhammer parts, www.e-gunparts.com.

It's more of a matter of finding a rifled .62 barrel. If I find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'm going to grab it. Hey Fred your barrel making buddy do .62 rifled? :hatsoff:

Will do Wal when I can work out the right barrel for the right price, and I got some stocks for 15/16 and 1 1/8 , barrel pin,and hammer, trigger screws from NAC(gunparts ) just a month ago, no barrels trigger or hammers but most of the rest they got WAl and yes my guy does rifled 62s up to 2"X42" and they are under 200 ready to shoot. And that wood up front does look right cannonner, I'm a fan of the thin Sharps type front wood. Fred :hatsoff:

GMWW and FW,

I just got a .62 1:104 twist barrel made for me by Ed Rayl. It's threaded and crowned and "in the white". I paid him $255 for 2 barrels - the .62 and a fast-twist .54.
His turnaround time is 3-6 months. Dave, my gunsmith says they are nicely done.

Jimbo
