Just finished cleaning up the lock, draw filing the barrel, and scrapping the finish off the stock. Really turned out nice for a used gun with a lot of dents and scraps removed from the stock & barrel. I believe it's American walnut, not to dark. I'd like to finish it with a light reddish tint. I believe I saw some examples on Dave person tutorial on how to achieve it. I'll do a search for it. I also would like to know if walnut is an easy wood for carving a few scroll on? I'm building this rifle for my grandkids to shoot with me. I never shoot my flintlocks yet so it'll be a wild experience. Thanks......Labrat

Great start on refinishing your Pedersoli. Here’s my Pedersoli Frontier I completely redid using Birchwood Casey Rusty Walnut Stain to give you an idea of the final reddish color and what can be done to customize these rifles. Staining starts on pg4. Good luck and much success with your project! Be sure to post photos! We luv photos!

I was at one of Dave's seminars on English guns. He said to get the right color from American walnut to be closer in color to English is a yellow dye first, reduces the purple tones...or at least I think that's what I remember. I never used to have to write things down, but I guess with increased wisdom comes decreased memory...but you have a stock that's already had finish applied, so might change things.
