Trucks? Naming trucks? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Trucks don't have names. What's wrong with you? Now motorcycles...............those babies need names. My last motorcycle was a beautiful Honda Goldwing named "Sweet Pearl of My Youth". Just thinking of her brings a tear to my eye. Sweet Pearl is still alive somewhere making someone happy, I just know it. Sweet Pearl.......Sweet Pearl.......Where are you sweet baby?

Yep, 2 Tall, you just got your chain yanked. :haha: Merry Christmas!!! :hatsoff:
Ok OK OK valid point 1-point to you. I wish I had a bike still but ohh well i got a nice 4-wheeler named Sporticus because its a Polaris Sportsman and green and dubbed it after the Michigan State Spartans, even though I am a U of Michigan fan

The usual for me is to simply call them, "The .50", "The Smoothie", "The .40 (Lil' Red), etc. Thankfully it has been years since I've had to name one "%#*!@"!

Just curious. Do any of you give your MLers names? I've decided to name my new late Lancaster Amazing Gracie since it shoots so amazingly well. That old hymn was popular back then too.

Only the ones I have been married to. Lucifer, .54 GPR and Bob, .50 CVA Bobcat. Btw, no, I am not gay.

If Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton didn't think naming their rifles was silly then neither do I.

Daniel Boone rifle - Tick Licker

Simon Kenton rifle - Death Wind

I'll have to think of a cool name for my new rifle.

My southren rife is Belle (belles of tennesse) my centermark is Ol Tool my first build was a full stock flint hawken that I used after elk, it was wapiti toka...elk enemy. Aint named the leman I building now or my nwg. Did have a cheap rice burner that I bought from a friend called drug in the mud. About a yearlater he found another just like it . He called it drug behind.

Another problem with naming your guns is it really doesn't fit the image of a tool any longer. I had a crescent wrench by the name of Molly. While working under the car one day I asked my youngest son to go to my tool box and bring me my "Molly". My boy went to look for her and never came back! :haha:

My CVA Mtn Rif I call phoenix after the bird. When I made it in '78 it looked like a rusty pipe on a 2x4 with house paint. After a few years of hiding it at the back of the closet, I got serious and redid it the right way. Now a nice brown barrel and the stock with a oil finish done the real slow way, a little bit at a time, over and over. So phoenix as in rising from the ashes. Oh, my vehicle is called "jeep" and my canine is called "dog" and a few not for public words.

Hmmm - what if you call your rifle "GUN" and use it while accompanied by your Labrador Retriever whose name is "Black Dog"

In my opinion if some of the greatest 18th century frontiersmen like Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, Davy Crockett, Lewis Wetzel, and others would name their rifles it isn't silly or childish.

They properly named their rifles not because they think it's human or has some kind of spirit but properly out of respect because it's a good shooter or very reliable, or named it after something or someone they respected or loved. Or they do it because it's funny and entertaining and amusing.

The U.S Navy still puts names on ships and submarines, and planes ( hornet, super hornet, and lightening ).

The Airforce has names for planes ( mustang, specter, falcon, warthog, etc. ), the Army has put names on tanks ( Sherman, Abrams, Patton, etc ) and helicopters ( Cobra, Blackhawk, Apache, Iroquois, etc. )

If you think it's silly to name a rifle then don't. But if you get a chuckle and a laugh at giving your rifle a funny name, or give it a name out of respect for someone you knew who is gone now then name it. I had a friend for 42 years his name was Don Parsons but when we were kids his nickname was Neater. He died September 12, 2012 ( he was 54 years old ) of throat cancer after a three year battle. I think I'll name my new Early Virginia rifle Neater.

Life is to short. If doing something like naming a rifle, a car, a truck, a mountain, or what ever makes you happy and puts a smile on your face then do it.

Some folks think of guns as just tools. You don't name a screwdriver or a can opener. But people have had a soft spots for ships and weopens for a long time. Cave men were doing fancy ,and some times crude carvings on spear thowers a long time ago. Some may have been hunting magic, some look like ****.Ticklicker seems as good as Excalibur

I guess I do although I use proscriptive terms.
Bolt gun, Black rifle, High wall, front stuffer, Cap-n-baller , revolver , pistol (Semi- auto) hand gun, all followed by caliber or cartridge. Mike D.

I named mine "Hammers" because of their tac driving abilities. We used to shoot Quarters as our targets.
