There is an abundance info on natural dyes to be found online. For example dyeing wool with onion skins, dyemakers polypore and dyemakers fungi, various lichens, dyemakers woad, and walnut husks. That's just a few. I was looking around for a bit this evening. So there are a few key search words If you wish to to have a look too. I think I will refrain from posting a list of links. Hope this is of some use to someone.

Well just one... If it works.

Regarding colonial dyes: Here is a tidbit from The Gentlemans Magazine 1773 about Karm, the red dye. I was just looking for lichen dyes in hopes of dyeing some feathers for fishing flies and came across this for whatever it's worth. This forum seems to be geared toward PC only so I thought this might help someone with a project.

I found some more info on colonial dyes. I have iris blossoms and violets and will try making a dye from it. The purpose is to dye mohair and maybe feathers and quills for flytying without the use of acid which would harm feathers but this is useful information for period clothing. I also have some sassafrass root for orange dye. I will keep this project to myself but had to add this if it is acceptable here. Again the book is not a preview.

There was also a pdf file book on Navajo dyes but that is not on topic.
