Try Graf & Sons in Mexico Missouri. They will sell as few as 4 pounds mix and match.

I also live in California (the Southern part of the state) and am having trouble finding black powder for sale locally. I really would like to find a store that I can drive to rather than pay a large fee to have some black powder shipped out to me.

Thanks for the info. The closest Bass Pro Shop for me is in the state of Nevada. It looks like I might have to order it online and hope that I am around when it is delivered and not sent to my leasing office (I live in an apartment complex). I can have powder at my apartment but I don't really want to explain it to the people working in the front office.

What part of southern Ca. do you live in? If you'r in the San Diego area BP is available at El Cajon Gun Exchange.
427 Broadway
El Cajon, Ca. 91910

I live north of Los Angeles. El Cajon is a bit of a drive but if I can merge it with a visit with friends in San Diego then it maybe worth it.

What I did was order 25 lbs of Goex 3f from PowderInc. It came to $250 (including hax mat and shipping) and that will last me for many years. Thats $10 per lb as opposed to $17 with tax per lb over the counter and I'm sure next year it won't be cheaper.

You might want to check your local ordnances on storing larger quantities of black powder. Some local communities up here in New England limit the amount of holy black you are allowed to have in your house. There is one town in Mass that limits you to no more than 5 pounds of black powder in your house.

Not sure what California laws are, but I would bet a pound of powder there are restrictions on amounts in various towns there.

One other thing about ordering powder online and getting it by UPS. You might want to call the UPS guys ahead of time and let them know it is coming. I ordered my yearly supply and found a nice big box sitting on my front stoop easily visible from the road when I got home from work. HAZMAT stickers all over the place on it! Danger explosives, etc. Nowhere on the paperwork did it say adult signature required. Thank goodness the kids were still in school! I could imagine the headlines if they had got ahold of that!

:m2c:

Right now California is 50 lb of BP but they are talking about changing that. Mine required an adult signature.
