PS to my last post. Since the move to the new server, why am I the only Old Fart with his age up there? Not that it bothers me[like my arthritis!], it just surprises me that I'm not eighteen anymore

I think it's probably because you chacked the "Share my birthday" box in the user profile page (right under the date).

And you probably thought it meant the cake. :haha:

You mean there isn't any? :(

In my experience a smoothbore can be everybit as accurate as a rife out to 50yds, after that it usually will start to open up. I have a northstar west trade gun(no rear sight) and after some practice, I shoot it as well as my sighted rifled flinters. The tang screw makes a good refernce point for a rear sight.

A good thing about a Smoothbore is that when you miss you have a good reason......."You missed"....."I know it, hey its a shotgun and I'm trying out Pumpkin balls"
......On the rear sight thing ....I rather like not having a rear sight .....One less thing to have to line up with 50 year old eyes with no eyeglasses......That front turtle sight is so far out there it is real crisp looking...........
My Jackie Brown Carolina Smoothbore in 20ga.fits good so I ignore a rear sight.......My rear sight is how much of the round part of the barrel is showing in front of the octogon section.........
On accuracy,,,,,,I feel I can hit a deer somewhere in the lung area maybe out to 60 yards.........35 to 40 he is meat in the pot for sure..........
And as others said.......Once you start with a flintlock you will ignore your percussion guns............Bob

Oh, I've already adventured into flintlocks...My T/C Hawkins is a flintlock, and the rifle I have on the way is a flintlock...

but, smoothbore has been sitting there in the back of my mind for a while, and I'm considering it for my next (which will be my last according to my wife) purchase.

Thankyou all, for your time.
