I have acquired a "16" gauge smoothbore. Its a dandy little thing with a 26" barrel and a Chambers Early Colonial Lock that is a sparking machine. On closer inspection the bore measures .655, closer to a 17 gauge. Would anyone know where I could find an old Lyman .646 Round ball mold? I usually like to shoot a "chewed" ball with out a patch.

From the Lyman website:
Q: Do you make custom moulds?
A: We do not currently make custom moulds, however we would recommend contacting:

Ballard Moulds
Box 298
Clancy, MT 59634
406-933-8217

NEI Handtools, Inc
51583 Columbia River Highway
Scappoose, OR 97056
503-543-6776

Then there's Tanners molds and some others...anyhow it's probably going to be a custom job.

Yes, I thought about Callahan and may go that way but I have Lyman handles and they once made a .646 round ball mold. Nothing against the gentleman in England but if I could acquire a mold from a U.S. manufacturer I would prefer to do so.

you must want to comitt suicide. lead is a poisonous heavy metal. affects brain fuction first. a lot of roman remains tested positive for it, this was the elite not the poor. as for a mold contact js slater.com

Yah. Lots of Roman's died but I haven't seen very much evidence that it was the lead that actually killed them.

The Romans used Lead acetate as a sweetener and the wealthy consumed a lot of it. (The poor were doing well if they had enough food so sweeteners weren't normally on their diet.)

Anyway, we're casting lead, not eating it so I don't think anyone is likely to "comitt suicide".

I think they are refering to your "chewed ball " statement I believe he chews the ball with a rasp or file

Large shoots with vendors have been a good source of hard to find stuff for me. But takes time going to them. If you can't find a U.S. made mould to suit your needs, contact Jeff Tanner.
