Morning one and all,
I went to one of CO's large sporting good chains for primer, bullets, and powder and as I am sure you all know none were to be had. So....
I walked around and found my self at their BLK powder gun rack and they had a 1860 display model on sale,150.00 I figured if it diden't shoot than I could pass the savings on to sombody who is less worried about tight groups.
I got it home tuned it up and polishied most of the moving parts and went out to see what it would do.
25grns fffg over powder wad .457 ball and a two to one elk tallow, marmot oil mix over the balls to keep fouling down.
This combo workes great in my 1858 Remingtons.
I never was a colt fan, the Remingtons are a little more practacal, you can pull the cylinders without tearing the gun apart and I had Coyote Joe cut my barrels down to five inches for easy carry.
Any way the first five shot group was inch and a half.
Not bad so I increases the charge to 30 grns and boy another one inch group, high and to the right.
I cleaned it up and sent it off to Yotie Joe to put a larger front site and cut my hammer notch a little to the left.
My first group was low but center, a little filing and it was point of aim a little more and it was just above my front site and beautful one inch group.
Yehaaa
I have never shot in a cap an ball in under 20 shots. It is a joy to handle and shoot.
My new carry gun.

YEAH, when you get one that shoots like that it is a joy. There are things one can do to improve the groups of a poor shooter but some just will not shoot like that no mater what you try. To get one like that out of the box and for 150 bucks is really a prize!
My own Pietta 1860 never has done better than 2 1/2", which I consider good enough, but it now wears a Kirts Konverter, making it a five shot .45 Colt.

GreenMtnBoy, You look a little familiar, it's been a year and a half but still look familiar. You don't Elk hunt guide just outside of Gunnison, Co do ya?? You stated you looked in a CO store so I'm assuming Colorado. I was in a Elk hunt camp outside of Gunnison in the second season of 07', weather got cold and all of the Elk went down to town! Only one Elk out of the whole group. If you are the guide I'm thinking of we chased a group of Elk with you across the top of one of the mountaintops as your hunters wandered around 30 minutes behind us! In fact you helped our group after your - ahem - "hunters" surrendered to their warm abodes. The colonel and his 15 yo. kid on his first hunt!! We were the 40 yo flatlanders from IL! We had the guide from Atlanta and the young floppy haired friend of yours.

Of course ignore this if that's not you.

Yup that be me.
I fact if I remember right I had a nice five point bull standing broad side at 30 yrds for the colonel wile he argued with his kid about tying up his shoe laces.
My pard Jeff Perambo was your guide wasen't he?
That was a trying hunt for me.
Not to bad mouth but I coulden't put a fire under thos boys butt, but hay thats why it's called hunting.
First season is the time to hunt here.
still in the rutt and haven't been hunted for three weeks.
Second season is a very difficult season with early snow.

Yup, Brian and I were coming up the other side of that mountain with Jeff when we met up with you chasing that bull. We swung around to the top to try to get a shot at it. If I remember correctly the colonel didn't even know you had a bull for him until much later - like when they caught up with us. I know it was a painful hunt for you, everyone could see it.

There were four of us in our group, we had Jeff and the guide from Atlanta.

After talking with you that week I decided if I head back there it will be for a muzzleloader hunt.

Kurt

You look happier than a pig in ****!

That picture would be perfect of you in Confederate soldiers uniform

Great shooting! I like the Piettas, and have a couple. For the price it's hard to beat, especially for what you get!

I really like this one I aged.
