Morning one and all,
I went to one of CO's large sporting good chains for primer, bullets, and powder and as I am sure you all know none were to be had. So....
I walked around and found my self at their BLK powder gun rack and they had a 1860 display model on sale,150.00 I figured if it diden't shoot than I could pass the savings on to sombody who is less worried about tight groups.
I got it home tuned it up and polishied most of the moving parts and went out to see what it would do.
25grns fffg over powder wad .457 ball and a two to one elk tallow, marmot oil mix over the balls to keep fouling down.
This combo workes great in my 1858 Remingtons.
I never was a colt fan, the Remingtons are a little more practacal, you can pull the cylinders without tearing the gun apart and I had Coyote Joe cut my barrels down to five inches for easy carry.
Any way the first five shot group was inch and a half.
Not bad so I increases the charge to 30 grns and boy another one inch group, high and to the right.
I cleaned it up and sent it off to Yotie Joe to put a larger front site and cut my hammer notch a little to the left.
My first group was low but center, a little filing and it was point of aim a little more and it was just above my front site and beautful one inch group.
Yehaaa
I have never shot in a cap an ball in under 20 shots. It is a joy to handle and shoot.
My new carry gun.
