I’ve been forging a few blades here lately and thought I would share this one with you as I find it very interesting! The deer leg bone that I used for this knife was found with some artifacts. Who knows exactly how old it is but I would guess very, very old according to the artifacts found with it. Even though the clay layer it was found in had been generous, it had full length cracks and the ends were eroded away. I stabilized it the best I could and wrapped it with wet rawhide to help with strength. It is very strong now. Anyway, I forged a blade from some 5160 steel and poured a pewter bolster for it. Luckily, the pewter reacted to the epoxy that I left on the top of the tang and came out with a few shallow pits. I was hoping for this as it compliments the bone. I gifted it to a good friend who had the bone. As always, thanks for looking!!
