Hello I'm a bit out of my element here. I haven't shot a muzzleloader since the 80s. A friend of mine that owns an antique shop ran across this one and gave it to me because he couldn't have it in the shop because of the clientele. (I think ). I'm hoping to find info on it.. I have searched for the name online and really have not found anything. The side plate is marked HW Delavan. It measures at 72 bore.

I would imagine it will be relegated to a wall hanger even with a few repairs. The stock has some cracks on the fore end. Most importantly scoped the barrel and to my eyes it looks to be really pitted with lots of rust. I ran a bore brush down it and used CLP to remove as much rust as possible. But it looks like it was put away for decades without being cleaned or oiled. In info would be greatly appreciated.

You've got a fairly early percussion 12 gauge shotgun made by some unknown person. The H W DELAVEN & CO lock is not very common; he apparently sold them in both flint and percussion. Swinney lists him as probably a hardware and gun parts importer and dealer who was first listed in New York City business directories in 1821
