Hello all, I am new to the site and to black powder shooting. I posted my first thread on the percussion rifle forum and shared my new pistol there. I thought that I should post it here. It is Traditions 1810 William Parker. Brand new in box. I bought it because I like the look and feel. Please give me your thoughts on the Traditions line and on this gun. Please be honest, ( I can handle it!!). What I do not know and am learning is what IS a good reproduction company and product. So let me know your feelings on the brands that are out there and where Traditions ranks in the line up. I now own one CVA Mountain rifle and this pistol. I am interested in buying a Kentucky style long gun in the future and am looking for in put prior to the purchase. Thanks in advance for your comments. Df

That's very pretty. Traditions is an import reseller, not a manufacturer though they may "brand" with their name.

The CVA Mountain Rifle is an above average mass-produced "Hawken" especially, rumor has it, if US made.

Fine looking pistol! I have several Traditions BP firearms and all perform very very well. They are somewhere around CVA quality (but a CVA Mnt Rifle is a GRAND weapon!).

For the Kentucky if you like this pistol, Traditions makes a kit and a finished gun. My first BP was a kentcky .45 traditions kit. Many sites on-line carry em. Sportsmans guide, Cheaper than dirt etc etc. If you want a better one Pdersoli Kentucky is a good bet.

Yer hooked, might as well look at the Traditions Tennessee...a fine shooter IMHO. Lil more money than Kentucky but I like it, 1-66 twist and a bit shorter and still full stock.

Post some range pics, wanna see how that pistol shoots.

Thanks for your in puts, the CVA is a US model and I will post some pics of my first shoots with both. Hopefully tomorrow if all goes as planned!! Df

Normaly I don't care much for Traditions guns BUT that one looks quite good :)

That is a real nice looking pistol. What caliber is it? I own two Traditions percussion guns, a .44 caliber, stainless steel, `1858 New Army, pistol, and a .32 caliber, Crockett rifle. Both are well made, and the fit and finish are excellent. Both are quite accurate..........Robin

I have a Traditions pistol in .50 caliber I built from one of their kits. It is percussion lock and of very good quality. On par with most of the European imports. Mine was made in Spain.

I believe the Italian replicas are of slightly higher quality but the Traditions is in no way a low grade piece. I give it an 8 out of 10.

You seem to have found a lovely specimen.

Traditions produces a KY rifle in kit form and also as a finished gun. I suggest the kit, especially because you are new. It will give you some useful knowledge of the mechanism. They are cheaper by a good chunk than the finished rifle and basically just screw together and then you do some minor woodwork and sanding, finishing, etc. Very easy and you can finish the wood and metal any way you wish. :)
