Need your thoughts on this guys!

Has anyone ever experimented using wood stains to stain or dye leather?.....Most wood stains have good varieties of color. Been thinking about trying it on smaller leather items! :hmm:

Horner, most wood stains ar4e oil based and will work on some leathers, they more or less lay on the surface and are ok for tinting leather, they will not penetrate the leather well unless there an alcohol base, some water bases may work also, however if the leather has had any oil added to the finishing process, neither the oil based or water based stains will penetrate well but will help with an aged look, let us know your findings, thanks, Beav

Any of the alcohol based stains used in gun stock staining will work on leather. Like Laurel Mtn forge gun stock stains or Homer Dangler stains. I know a lot of fellas that use the leather dyes to stain gun stocks. Len

This bag was dyed with wood stain (alcohol base). I don’t remember the color I used but it worked well. Old elk body and thin dear piping. Has not been oiled in the pictures.

Your bag looks good and I really like the strap  ...I've started "Padiddling" around with some other wood stains and several seem to have possibilities for leather staining!.....Thanks everyone!
