Rick, I would agree with you completely. When you think the ballpark time for invention of the French Flintlock mechanism was about 1630 and the strength of the trade guilds to keep their trade secrets secret it really did take awhile to get it completely together. The cock bolt and tumbler is for me a hold over of the thinking of the Snaphaunce. It does give you a nice canvas for engraving on the head of the tumbler bolt without a screw slot. All of these parts would have to be case hardened for them to work correctly. It's just fun to figure out how they worked and possibly why they didn't continue. Later,Hank
