Welcome from Upstate New York's Central-Leatherstocking Region.

Always impressed with Islanders. THE ADMIRAL and I tooled around in a 34 foot sailboat and felt pretty independent . . . but actually making it work 365/24/7 with such isolation is VERY admirable (at least to me). We sold the boat and bought a hobby farm and can go months without power if necessary. Have gone weeks without power after bad storms so we are confident we have it covered. It's a state of mind as well as a way of life.

Problem I see with an island . . . what do you hunt? I'd think you'd be on a fishing forum. ;-)

Just started hunting, got a deer! Fishing here is mostly lobster but there are so many factors that make it very difficult for the lobstermen. Plus, the "gummint" gives me rocking chair money.

the only thing to hunt here is deer and we have plenty of them. Got one this year and there's a week or more left for ML season. Fishing is too mus work here!

Well Charlie, a very special welcome from one islandite to another! I lived on a very small Maine island (200+acres) for about 30 years with about 9 months a year as sole resident. It's a wonderful life style, then I got married. Great gal but January commutes were the deal killer. Still married but now live on a small farm on the Maine mainland. It's almost as good. You've chosen well, these are great folks with lots of collective wisdom and helping hearts, hands plus a generous supply of humor for good measure. Again, welcome!

Well, you have me beat,200 acres? This place is huge by comparison, about 1600 acres and almost 30 or so souls year round. Tons of "summah folk" although they much prefer the handle "seasonal residents"! I am retired now living in the house my Grandfather built. Thanks for the welcome, sir!

Welcome from the islands all the way across the continent from you, the San Juans, Orcas Island in particular, in WA state. Hooray for the island life! Welcome to the forum and happy shooting to you.
