Now that I've finished the wife's Lancaster, it's time to build me something. Is there such a thing as a specific Buffalo/cross sticks rifle? or is this a case of "anything goes"? I can't seem to find any examples or pictures of such on the internet. I have some ideas of what I want, but would like to see if there are definate patterns or rules that must be adhered to. Any help or sense of direction would be appreciated.

NightWind,

Please clarify whether you are interested in period correct gun or a modern competition cross stick gun. There is a lot of difference. Many of the early plains guns (the Hawken is just one of many examples) were shot from cross sticks while there are many modern crossstick guns which rival bench gun in sophistication. Many of these do not resemble traditionally styled guns.

Well, uh,....geez,....this is getting complicated already!
I don't have a machine shop to build one of those futuristic looking red laser zap guns so I'll go for a more asthetic period correct with real wood. I'd probably use it on both sides of the creek at Friendship.

I am making a buffalo gun with a under-hammer lock, a 11/8-45 x42 inches long barrel( E-Gunparts about $52.00). All You need a short peice of wood for the stock and sights. You will have to breech the barrel. NMLRA had an article of a Buffalo gun some years back. Maybe you can talk to NMLRA and get a vopy of the article.
