Sorry to hear of your troubles! Too bad you can't just walk in to a dealer and buy one that you get to put in your hot little hands first!

Every BP revolver that I own was bought in person and checked-out prior to purchase to find any problems, AND THERE WEREN'T ANY! Perhaps dealers doing across-the-counter business look at what they sell BEFORE they sell it to make sure that it isn't going to be a headache for them to deal with  .

Sometimes the cheapest price gets the most headaches when doing mail-order.....

Final Report: While cleaning this "gun" the fornt site fell off. So back to Cabelas it goes.
This report is useless without including how long it took to swap out cylinders!!

Sorry, guys... couldn't resist! :rotf: And sorry you were sent a lemon, Matchlock!!

Does anyone know what Cabelas does with reject guns? It can't be economical to ship them back to Italy. Do they get broken down for spare parts and/or get overhauled and resold?

Some folks have reported that they have seen returned black powder guns for sale at a reduced price in the Bargain Cave at their local Cabela's store. However they're sold as is and are not returnable, even if they're unfired.

Not too long ago Midway had some factory refurbished Uberti guns for sale which sold rather quickly, mostly Dragoons.

If I ever go for another Remington, I'm going to try the Uberti.

Matchlock: I hope your gun proves to be the exception. I've had three or four Pietta Remingtons from Cabelas in the last five years and they were all very well finished and accurate. Seems like the Pietta triggers are particularly nice these days. Pietta's QC has improved, but I think Uberti's is still better.

Well after seeing the new Pietta face to face. I like the Uberti. And thats saying something because my Uberti is old,do not know how old. It has few markings, I only know its a Uberti by ordeing a front site from Taylors. Their gun smith told me that only Uberti had the front sites like mine. The only markings on it are proof marks on the cylinder, "for black powder only Italy" faintly marked on the right side of the barrel(barley can be read) and 607 on the under side of the barrel where the barrel meets the frame covered by the pin and under the grip.

The Pietta "Shooters" model has a dovetailed front sight and dovetailed rammer latch like the Uberti. It also uses a .457 ball (but mine really needs a .460 ball)and it only has a long barrel and it costs too much, but boy does it shoot

They go to the Bargain Cave! Arcticap is correct. I've seen some there myself in PA.
