Howdee folks
Well I finally bought a flintlock and sped to the range for some shooting time. I picked up a used custom gun that is a 45 cal. Penn rifle, 42 inch barrel, Large Siler Lock, and brass fixins.
This was my first time shooting a flintlock (lots of experience with the cap guns  ) I shot freestanding (offhand) at 25 yards to get the hang of things. Here are some results:
I shot ten shots at this target, the last was the low one-- it seemed to be a delay in the shot, so I cleaned the bore and touchhole and shot the second target.
I did not paste the misses from the first target but the new miss is the 3 o'clock position one. I would like to stretch it's range a little next weekend but I had a blast with the new toy. I did have to put about 5 grains of 4f in the pan to get the rifle to fire correctly (worked without a main charge in the tube) I did not try single charge of 3 grains in the pan with the main charge. I will try it next week. I used 45 through 55 grains to test the rifle out, it didn't seem to effect the point of aim too much. I was taking alot of crap from my buddies about the smoke gun, I am a big time smokeless shooter but as I get older I am slowing it down and shooting more chalenging guns and having fun doing it. I also shot my 36 cal baby dragoon just to make more smoke. :rotf: My only complant is that I am finding myself looking at other flintlocks especially pistols :shake: Well I am counting the days this week so I can get back to it.
