Had the same issues in my .50 cal CVA mountain rifle. Went to a "wet patch" of ballitol and water cured what ailed it.

I beleive I will go back to my pure olive oil lube and it should solve my shredding patch issue. I have been trying to get away that messy streight olive oil lube... but I may have to go back to it
