I drew a picture of a vest at a museum in Oregon, cut the leather and did some wet forming. My wife figured out the pattern, and did the sewing.

There is just something about braintan.

Nah. Just tired. 8 hours of living history does that...then the wife says "Don't change yet! I want to take some pictures!" :winking:

Very nice. What's the time period of the hat and vest?

The bell crown is appropriate for most of the 1800's, easily 1803 through 1870. The vest could be appropriate to the Lewis and Clark expedition if I had left the collar standing up. But I volunteer at Sutter's Fort, and the interpretive date is 1846. So I folded the collar down like the one in the Oregon Historical Society collection.

A VEST seems to be important and popular throughout many time periods. Why do you think that is?
Just wondering.

I can work in a vest without getting too cold, with freedom of movement for the arms. Since neither the trousers or the shirt have pockets, the vest is a good place to keep my watch, money and keys. And that hasn't changed much over the years.

Dang,
All I get are those x box things...bet it looks good Doc,sure wish I could see it.

One obvious reason is it was considered impolite to go around without your coat on outside, in only your shirt .. that is if I read it right! :hmm:

Very nice outfit...really like the hat.
Your wife does a nice job sewing.
You are lucky all around

Does anyone have a good source for perior vests or waistcoats? I'm thinking no later than 1807.
(Yes, Jas. Cox, I know CC has some!)
