I am going to be building my first gun, can anybody tell me where to get a good kit for a beginner. ::

bshutlz ~ I guess it depends on how much you are prepared to spend. Good parts for a rifle can run you $500 and many times, more.
Pecatonica River Longrifle Supply Company is a good supplier as well as Muzzleloader Builder's Supply. Track of the Wolf is also another supplier, but many have complained about their availablilty of parts. Hope this helps. Rick

If you go with TOW, call them to place the order. If a part is out of stock, you can get an alternative.

Without knowing how handy you are with tools, it's dificult to say what a good kit "for you" is.

The Pecatonica/TOTW/Muzzleloader Builder Supplys type of gun requires a LOT of work. Nothing fits without work and there are no instructions unless you buy one of the fine books which deals with building a rifle.

There are Commercial manufactures which make "kits" for beginners.
One of the best is Lymans Great Plains Rifle kit.
It and several other commercial makers kits are called 98% finished, and for the most part they are.
They require a lot of sanding, some inletting and applying a finish of your choice to the wood and the barrel.
These kits are in the mid 200 to high 400 price range and they will produce a nice rifle.

If you decide to build any kit whether it is a Commercial type or the high quality Custom type, be sure to ask us questions if you have any problems at all. Answering questions and giving pointers is one of the things the folks on this web site do best. :)
