Newbie question

First of all, I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to ask, if not please direct me.

I have shot and hunted inline for over a decade, recently I fell in love with traditional muzzleloaders.

My question: I have read discussions about locks. Of course, flint and percussion are pretty obvious. I have also read about a back lock, I would appreciate it if someone could please explain that and any alternative?
