I am thinking about going up this year, cant make the whole week, I have never been and need some tips, Is it better to go up early in the week to buy stuff from the vendors? I would guess the neatest stuff would be gone first. When do you need to get there? Are the vendors usually there the whole week?

Earlier is definitely better. Some of the vendors leave early in order to be at other events by the second weekend. I don't know where you are coming from, but be aware that Route 62 east of Friendship is closed due to weather damage to the roadway. There are other ways to get there.

we are coming from the Nashville TN area, I know we will be there the first Friday and all day Saturday. I am an average flintlock shot on somedays. okay that might be an exaggeration, Is there a chance that I will be needing to bring my rifle up there or should I just leave it at home. I have never been there and dont know what to expect.I see myself more as a participant instead of a competitor

It would be a pity to come all that distance and not shoot at the NMLRA range. Even if it's just for practice on Friday, it would give you a taste of the place. And you could buy a one-day registration (instead of an entire shoot registration) and shoot a few relays or even an aggregate on Saturday. There's even a new match for "Novices", meaning anyone who hasn't won first place in any match at a National Shoot.

Just carrying your rifle will make you feel good, and you won't feel conspicuous in the least.

I'll be working the Offhand Line as a range officer Saturday afternoon. Stop by and we'll get to say howdy in person. I make new friends every time I go there.

Go to the nmlra webpage and look for spring shoot program. I know,it is thick, but everything that is going on, is in there. I'll take off from Cloverdal archery shoot this year and spend 4 days (first saturday, sunday, monday and tuesday up there)Unfortunately, the Defense of Fort Greenville is on Tuesday. For me the most fun event...that's why I'll sty longer and will sacrifice a day worth of vacation...
