Think of it as a relatively non-confrontational way to question why the NMLRA is spending money on new projects (i.e., sponsoring the Gunmakers Fair) without having addressed old problems (as required by law). There's a chance that the announcement about the Gunmakers Fair will be the straw that broke the camel's back, and that someone will file complaints with DOJ, IRS, and FWS/INDNR, or contact the media.Sooo... what has this to do with Dixon's Gun Makers Fair?
Yep, that is the choice, cancel the show. This show is coming back after getting discontinued. Who cares who is helping it come back. Everyone says it is a great show, been around a long time. Bringing it back is positive. Friendship is in a different state. Deal with it.Daryl, in accepting sponsorship from the NMLRA, the Gunmakers Fair/vendors/attendees are benefiting from discriminatory effect of the NMLRA's spending priorities. Plain and simple: supporting the Gunmakers Fair is supporting the NMLRA's practices, good or bad.
Rich, people have been trying to get enough support within the community to get the NMLRA board to act. The only time we get any answers from the NMLRA is when questions are asked in public. Perhaps you're right: trying to resolve the problems within the community hasn't worked for 25 years, hoping it will work now is sorta stupid, eh?
As far as the Gunmakers Fair goes, rather than "ruining" a thread here it would probably be more effective to send letters to the venue, other sponsors, and the vendors, explaining the history of the problem and asking why they are choosing to work with NMLRA. Such letters could then be followed up with media attention, protestors outside the show, contacts with customers and suppliers of the vendors, etc. . . . Of course, they might decide it is easier to cancel the show.
