No Buttplate?

OK, it has a buttplate, but.....I have a .50 Renegade that I had Bobby Hoyt re-bore to .58 smoothbore, 24 gauge. I'm planning to use it for small game hunting. The LOP is a tudge long for me, especially so since this is a shotgun (smooth rifle) and will be used for quick shots. I can cut the stock easy enough but then the buttpate won't fit. Since the steel T/C buttplate is hollow, there's no way to make it fit once the stock is shortened. I ha thought to acquire a piece of 1/8" steel plate and cut it to fit the stock and then blue it. Or, use a piece f brass. The thought ran across my mind to just round the edges of the walnut stock, sand it smooth and then add coarse checkering to the butt. This would leave the toe and heel unprotected, of course, so I hesitate to go this route. Have any of you done this (no buttplate) with your guns?

~~ Buy a grind to fit Pachmayr and roll with it.

~~ I'm sure you can find a buttplate that fits from one of the vendors out there.

~~ Me, being a welder, I would add a lip of metal around the inside of the original buttplate and grind to fit.

You can't hurt a T/C. Just round off the butt and shoot it. Or tack a piece of leather on it.

Classic PoorBoy does not have a butt plate, so there is historical precedent.

It's easy to inlet a toe plate and a piece of antler or bone to make a heel protecter.
