I am building a Kentucky rifle kit I bought from the mountain man store in Colorado.. Great service!

I live in S E Wisconsin and got a Cabela's coupon in the mail so i drove up to the store in Richfield WI.

That as a waste of gas... They did not have any on the shelf so I asked and they don't even carry them??? WTH??

I said thank you for checking and left without buying a thing.

You can order them online and they'll ship them to the store of your choice for free. I always call before driving a long distance to be sure they have something on hand - even if they stock it.

I've always ordered my flints from Track of the Wolf and have always been happy with them. A friend gave me a five gallon bucket of flint river stone so now I'm trying to knapp my own, slow going.

Check in their camp cooking department.

I was there once and asked the clerk about CO2 dischargers, the tips for which they had on the shelf with their BP gear.

The clerk swore up and down that it was a cooking accessory and only stocked with their pots and pans! :rotf:

I wouldn't expect a commercial sporting goods store like Cabela's to stock a speciality item like flints. Most of their customers shoot in-lines or cap-guns. I don't believe they even carry real black powder...

The best way to buy flints is in person - it pays to be a little particular. I prefer the ones with a flat top and bottom (surfaces relatively parallel to each other) while avoiding the ones with a hump or bulge (makes it more difficult to tighten in the jaws). Otherwise, order them on-line from a reputable supplier and sort them. I've yet to see anyone say anything nice about the cut flints that are also available, but I've never needed to use them either.

Its themountainman.net

They are in Manitou Springs, Colorado. (just north of Colorado springs)

The web site needs work and they know it but Chris was great to work with. They ordered what I wanted no monkeying around.

If you need something specific, like I did, I would bet he can help.
The physical store is awesome.

Good luck!!

Any flints from Cabelas will likely be branded Traditions, or somesuch & will cost you around $9 for a 2 pack.

Look online & get Tom Fuller flints from Track of the Wolf instead. They're the best flints for the money.

I usually order some flints whenever getting something else from TOTW so I always have plenty of spares on hand.

Cabela's SUCKS!.....To be fair....Only once have I ever left that store and not cussed expletives all the way to the car.....usually empty handed.

I avoid it like the plague.

Ya ... the learning curve starts every time I have $50 in my pocket and go there and history repeats itself. This flint thing is not the first epic fail.

To be honest the only good trip is when i picked up a mossin for $89.00

I'm sure i'll go back and grumble again.

We used to have a sportsman warehouse . Went under???

I'll hit TOTW.

Thanks for the tip!!!

my kentucky rifle kit is coming together (dry fit) and that is why i wanted to pick up some flints. I needed to see some sparks. lol

I went out to my little pasture where i keep two donkeys and picked up a small piece of quartz. clamped it in my cock and pulled the trigger. sparks flew everywhere.....no need for crapela's.

All I've ever seen in their stores was bubble packs of single sawn flints. Traditions? The price was so far off the scale of knapped flints from TOW, it was laughable.
