You can tell who’s into Traditional Muzzleloading and who sees it as just another activity to modify, "improve" and try to bring into the "modern age".

I'm sure some people would enjoy a Rap version of the Star Spangled Banner too?

I always found Nomex to be a kind of miracle material, hot as hell in the summer and providing almost no warmth is Winter. I wore jungle fatigues when I could get away with it flying in Nam.

Back in the states I would hang on to my old flight suits 'til you could just about see through them for summer flying and wear new ones in the Winter.

I would reckon I can get some thin patch out of the seats of the suits and thicker out of a newer suit.

Frankly I think we are being very non-traditional using these gol-danged computers to communicate ... but that's just me ...

:eek:ff I saw Steve Miller 15yrs ago, they RAPPED fly like an eagle :shocked2: :barf: :td:

And far as trying to improve have we not done so using hoppes # 9, Daisy patches, Bore butter, chrome lined barrels etc? I say try it n see. May work outstanding in yer bore.

I tried being more traditional using a computer to communicate but my old Commodore 64 won't connect to the internet... :haha:

Everything we do doesn't have to be "traditional".....and it's not even possible.

However doing things traditionally is 90% of the fun...

I can't bear it any longer ... ok ok I admit it... I bought my lard at the grocery store ... and ... I bought the beeswax over the internet and I drove my truck to the range ... my wife wouldn't let me keep a mule ... oh the shame ... I might as well buy an inline now... :surrender:

:)

Now let's not do anything drastic! :shocked2: .....You have a lot to shoot for....Think of your targets man.....
Things aren't as bad as they seem...
There is a toll free prevention hotline number for people who are contemplating buy an inline....

And I admit I scout my hunting area from my airplane ... but it is a 1929 design biplane  ... but I use fresh store bought avgas in it :shake: ...

... and I once used Pyrodex ... when all the stores were out of BP ...

Patch burn out is usually caused by one or more of 3 things....
Poor patch material
poor lube
Rough or sharp barrel.

Have you addressed these items?

I don't understand people's obsession with trying to improve muzzleloading technology with modern materials....Every fault that a muzzleloader has was fixed in the later 1800's when the cartridge gun was perfected.... :idunno:
Is this the same Clyde who said in Shooting Accessories 10/21/16 Re: Alliant MZ Powder "That said, I like it and it has its uses...." ?

Yes Herb!....But I didn't specify those "uses"....
It works great in BP cartridges, Specifically 12 gauge.. Now you know why I didn't specify....

No Clyde, you didn't! Lol, you know how people get.

Problem with keyboard words... emotion is left out unfortunately, things get construed differently.

I don't even think this is a case of emotion being left out. I often see responses to posts that make it clear that the responder either didn't really read he original post entirely, or didn't read the responses before theirs, or both. No where in the original post did he say he was having an issue he was trying to solve (except a surplus of nomex suits and no use for them), nowhere did he say he was trying to improve anything, just wondered if the idea had been tried and if it would/could/had work/ed. But he gets jumped on for trying to reinvent the wheel, and a bunch of advise on how to fix gun problems he never said he had.

I guess it's better they just go as they are to some landfill than possibly be made use of 1st.

Gonna Section VIII you right out of this place for sure! :rotf:

I hate computers... don't even own one! The cell phone I guess essentially is a computer but I choose to stay away from technology (besides work) at all costs. Leave me behind, I could care less!

My first thought was whether Nomex, a synthetic polymeric material, might leave smears of material in the bore. I knew that if Nomex did melt, the melting temperature would be pretty darn high but just how high? So, I went to the DuPont website on Nomex to see what they said about the melting point of Nomex. This is what they had to say about that "NOMEX® products do not melt." So, with that concern taken care of, I am now of the mind that if you can find some of the correct thickness, it sure is worth a try. Heck no it isn't HC but, like others have said, it just might solve the problem of dangerous smolderning patches. Like a famous homemaking expert likes to say "..and that's a good thing."

Give it a try and let us know what you find.
