This is my 20ga Flintlock copy of a Northwest trade gun. Sorry about the quality of the photo but I'm determined to master the technique!!When I tried to crop it wouldnt hold.

You huys will have to cut Flaith some slack, He's from Australia.

His gun is from NW Queensland Territory. They use brass for the TG there instead of strap metal!

They carve nice moldings behind the lock mortise too!

or

This is the deluxe model, available only on special order from your nearest HBC store.

All kidding aside, it is a nice looking gun. :imo:

Wasn't saying anything bad about his gun, just that the trigger guard didn't look like your normal N.W. Tradegun guard. It's a real nice looking gun, and one he should be proud of.

Very nice looking piece, looks like a meat maker.

Bye the bye, do the authorities give you guys much grief in Australia as to muzzleloader ownership and use?

Thanks Gents for the nice remarks,it's a great little gun. Yes we do have some problems with the "Powers" over M/L guns.
If they are to be used they have to be registered, this refers to antiques (original old ones!! as well). All modern m/ls must be registered and additionally to possess then it is necessary to have a firearms licence in the appropriate category...'A' for Rimfires (no semi-auto) and B/L shotguns (no pump or semi-auto)...'B' for center-fire B/L rifles (no semi-auto) and Muzzle-loaders. Yep!! a higher classification for m/ls. :curse:

But, if one owns a pristine, original Brown Bess capable of knocking a man over (and out) at 100yards no licence is required, as long as it is not intended to be used.
If, next to it in the gun cabinet there is a cheap and nasty copy of a Bess that was made last year in the foothills of the Himalayas then that must be registered even though no sane man would fire it. Yair, we have a problem now and then!!

Eoin neglected to mention:
1- ANY handgun; if registered as a shooter, the owner MUST shoot 10 times per year & 5 of those EVENTS must be GOV'T APPROVED MATCHES!; the more you own the more you MUST shoot up to a certain number of events.
2 - Collector Only? if you own more than 5 collector firearms you must have a monitored back to base alarm; but you can own 15 firearms for shooting before you are required to have a monitored alarm!!!! :shake:
3 - Firearms must be kept (unloaded) in locked, difficult to penetrate safe which is fastened to wall or floor.
4 - Ammo must be kept in separate locked container.
5 - Fines ($'s & Jail) for non-compliance are ridiculously HUGE!

Note that FIREARM includes air pistol & longarm!

I could think of more but it does get depressing!

lehigh_county,
do the police carry guns or is it like
England????
snake-eyes :peace: :) :hmm:

Very Nice - as far as pictures go - outside & in the sun is the best way. Indoor shots are poor at best.

Snake Eyes,
Yes they do; .38 revolvers I think. :hmm:
But whenever one is shot at a crim, there is a HUGE media driven public outcry; you know, civil liberties, protect the crims and F*** the victims!

I know this is way OT, but remember a few years ago in England when 2 teen boys took a younger child from a shopping centre, then beat his head in with a rock until he died? Well I remember the NEWS bulletins at the time (I will never forget) reporting that when the teens had been apprehended, they were surrounded by COUNSELORS!!!!!!!!! :curse:

Where were the F****** counselors for the victims FAMILY?!!!!!:curse:
Jim.
PS sorry for :yakyak:

Here in NSW most police carry .40cal Glock pistols, there are still a discerning few who continue to carry .38 Special S&Ws. BUT the Police,in general, aren't allowed to take their pistols home!!!! No one is allowed any type of firearm for self defence. Not even polititians, they have armed guards to protect them, at public expense :what:

I bet the crime rate hasn't went down 1% either.

Seems to me that if people know you don't have a gun to

protect yourself then the crime rate would rise. :imo:

If you look in feb. 1998 issue of Muzzle blasts. In the section longrifles of note. There is an original trade gun made in Liege Belgium. That has the exact same trigger guard. It also has the same carvings and srock design of a Nothwest gun,it has a steel dragon side plate. Caliber is .68. And it has a rear sight and a date (get this) 1732.

Woody,
NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOOO! You simple don't understand do you?

Politicians are just everday people, who have a talent for thinking quickly when pressured.

When a lunatic goes beserk and kills or attemps to kill another person, the govt's first reaction is to commence proceedings for taking more firearms from the law-abiding people (even the MEDIA will tend to quote that someone has been shot or shots were fired, even though in the particular example I am thinking of was a STABBING, no shots were fired!).
Politicians have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA AS TO HOW TO STOP PEOPLE COMMITTING CRIMES, so, in this example, the easiest solution it to remove more legally owned firearms from general circulation; a knee-jerk reaction that cost the community millions and does not affect any crime-rate!

There is absolutely no point in asking questions of polliticians; I have written numerous polite letters to them over the years, and whilst they have replied, they have never answered my questions. The last letter, which I sent about 2 years ago, just after the govt announced a handgun-buyback, asked the responsible minister one specific question viz "How is forcing me to shoot my handguns twelve times per year, going to make Australia safer?"
Yes I received a letter from the minister, but the question was unanswered.
Politicians: OVERPAID & UNDERWORKED!!! :curse:

Time for my meds again.

Sorry for the long/raving post. :sorry:

Well thank you kindly Eat Moose Meat, I didn't want to jump in and disagree with Los Americanos but the gent who made this gun assured me that it was a copy of a North-west trade gun, and he makes what are termed Museum Grade reproductions: ie., they are in design and workshmanship the same as the originals.

Now to go OT again, this evenings news had an interesting bit about the violence associated with the Iraq elections. Not over there but down in a Sydney (State Capital) suburb, quiet little Auburn (famous for having been the place of my birth) :) There was a brawl between pro and anti election Iraqis and shots were fired and four persons injured. "Police are making inquiries..." No doubt they are looking up the database to see which locals have registered guns :D
