Started with a flint steel fire!! woohoo finally got it in windy conditions...

Big sky, It doesn't get any better than that!!! What is on the spit in the last pic, is that the roast? Reminds me of my Dad's cooking when I was younger, He could make any thing over a wood fire taste great!

thats a deer front shoulder roast, good good eating...normally I've been doing all the woods cooking, but the kids are finnaly taking interest in it, so time to turn them loose with one page at a time of my super secret woods cook book haha

Are those your children???
They look so happy and interested in the whole opperation.
I think it's great to take kids camping.
Great job and what time is dinner??

looks like a bunch of happy campers to me. did you 'bone' the shoulder then stuff and tie? I've never roasted a shoulder over fire on a spit but have DO'ed several ala 'pot roast' - delish! nice fire pit set-up, the cake probably ain't PC w/pineapple but you can be sure there was many an 'apple' pie or other type cooked in DO's.

Yes deboned at butcher time, I usually try not leave bones in, just takes up to much freezer space.

Weve done lots of apple recipies in the DO's but wanted something differant this time, and that what the kids wanted to try so we let em. actually kinda let them plan the whole menu for that trip. Hopefully they keep their interest up in it...

The firepit set up is all homemede from "scrap" around the garage from diff 4x4 projects. It packs down and fits inside one of those old folding chair bags for transport. its seen it share of use one of the best things ive ever made i think.
