Notched rear sight

Hello all. I’m About to start a build based on a historic piece and I would like to include a rear sight like it had which seems to be a multi range peep sight. I was wondering how I would plan out the spacing on the holes as they’re fixed and non adjustable. Thanks!

Guess, and if it doesn’t work out then try again, alternatively make the first discs out plastic as throwaways.
Another way would be to mount an adjustable aperture sight, get the gun shooting where you want it, measure from the peep hole to the barrel and that‘s your desired fixed elevations.

I’m guessing the rear sight will be soldered to the breech? I would make a copy or two out of plastic or hardwood and glue it to the barrel and shoot it to see where you need to go with it. Then when you get sighted where you want to be on the target, make the exact copy out of the metal you want.

Yeah the sights soldered in place. I’ll have to try that method out

I always try experimenting with plastic, aluminum or even hardwood sights for new ideas. If it works I copy them in steel. Saves material and wear on my files and my nerves..

It’s a good idea. I’ll have to update this once I’ve settled
