Thanks Dawg, Crooner and all the others for the compliments. Rick, the bare wood didn't have the red tint to it. It was more like maple. I hit the wood with LMF Cherry stain, to bring support the stain of the horn.

Absloutely creative artistry! Well done. Right up there with contemporary longrifles where rifle decoration is. Wonky

Scott, Ive been looking for rings in a finial like that and cant seem to find them, where did you score those at?, Thanks, Beav

Great horn! The only thing I would change is working out a "hook" in the fish's mouth for the bag strap on the plug end...

You are an artist, sir :hatsoff:

I picked that up at a place called "The Bargin Barn". They collect doors, windows, latches, shelves, knobs, etc. from demolished houses and buildings. I stopped by there Friday to see if I could find a ring, and that was the only one they had. I'd love to come up with more...

Thank you sir! I had considered a fish hook, but both Brett and I thought that it wouldn't fit the horn. Brett said something to the effect that if it was a worm horn, then it could have a hook...

I am old enough that I am no longer easily impressed... BUT, That fish powderhorn is neat!
Enough so that I am going to build me one!
Thanks :applause:

That's the coolest powder horn I've ever seen. It looks like a piece of authentic folk art from the late 1700's.
My question is...(Here it comes)...wouldn't you be concerned about wet powder with a fish? :hmm:

na, na, its a "dry land" fish, only seen here in the pacific northwest, kinda like ground hog without legs :blah:

it is pretty cool! Scott did a great,no, OUTSTANDING job on it.
.....and its mine, ALL MINE oh ha ha ha ha!

me and Scott discussed him making a few more, so we could have a school!

definitly a badge of honor to have such a horn.

Yah, but is your wife gonna let you wear it? :hmm:
BTW, who was it who said they wanted a halibut?

Yessir, I get to add it to my "ensemble" on special days! She REALLY likes it! its on the china cabinet,Really!
flat fish...I'm thinkin' that was "No Beans".

I'm thinking there are about 14"special"days in our area

I learned horn making in the F&I style. The late 18th century was the time period I was attempting emulate with Brett's horn. Looks like I managed to do it... :)
