Thought I'd post some pics of a trade gun I just completed.
Pecatonica supplied it.
I went with a Chambers Virginia rather than the L&R Queen Anne like I had on my first trade gun.
They didn't have butt plates in stock, well nobody does I guess ...so I made one from sheet brass and nailed it on.
Also used smooth thimbles rather than the banded ones.
I also have a YouTube video of the build.

Nice job , I **** the nailed butt plate , are they horseshoe nails? I'd guess they were back in the day . Did you seal the end grain before you nailed the plate on ? it makes a difference in the rain .

You did a Fantastic job! The gun looks outstanding and the browning is really a great look
I have to say also that your video is one of the best Ihave seen! Excellent video production sir! Informative, enjoyable, great sequencing and the music adds a quality that takes it over the top.
Looks to me like you might have a future in this kind of thing!!!💯

Well my internet is being an absolute headache as usual. So I can't seem to get the finished photos posted.
Maybe I'll post them later or you can just see it in the video.

Cutfinger, yes sealed it prior to nailing it on.
At the same time I don't think it'll be in conditions that water will penetrate, but yes it's something to do before attaching the butt plate for sure.

3stetters, ask all you want hopefully I can help.

PathfinderNC, thanks a lot, that is kind of you and I am glad you enjoyed it. I have more videos of the sorts on my channel, so hopefully you can check them out.

Well done! Beautiful looking gun. Nice work on your video.

Photos posted up fine on your 2nd post.

You did a terrific job, Brian. Very well done.

I've never built one of those, but I have one by North Star West and one by Caywood. These guns are easy to carry and point, and a lot of fun to shoot. It's easy to understand why the native hunters liked them so much.

Again, the workmanship on your gun is excellent. Wood to metal fit is tight, and the carving, particularly around the tang and lock and side plate panels, is very clean and crisp. I especially like the finish on the metal, brass and steel.

Best regards,

Notchy Bob

I will sure to be checking your YouTube channel for more good stuff.
The browning/rusting/carding back method you used on your lock and barrel is nicely done. I will be receiving a Clay Smith Tulle Fusil de Chasse kit today (scheduled for delivery at least) and will probably go that finishing route with this one also.
congratulations again on a nice job.

Nice job Brian! Looks like you got a new gun to chase 🦃 turkeys with. I might have missed it somewhere, but what caliber is it?
