Years ago I had October Country build me a .69 caliber sporting rifle to take to Africa in hopes of killing a Cape Buffalo. Laws change often over there and Black Powder became almost impossible to have legally. I have had the opportunity to hunt there often and have killed a lot of critters with my recurve but have always wanted to go back with a muzzle loader.

I received a message from a fellow I have hunted elephant with with a picture of a can of Obatex powder made in the RSA. Seems legit but was wondering if anyone has ever loaded with any.

It would be a 2 gun hunt. The .69 for the buffalo and a .62 for plains game.

The recommended load for the .69 is 225 grains of FF. I suppose I could back off some and work back up to it since from what I read the Obatex is more like the swiss than Goex.

Has anyone messed with any of it?
Thanks
Marty

I’d get some one to make darn sure it’s REAL black powder, and not old repackaged pyrodex!

Marty, there are a few threads here and there on Obatex, including remarks by at least one American hunter that it was disappointing in a flintlock. I used to hear reasonably good reports about Sannadex years ago, but believe it is no longer on the market.
