Odd problem

hammer rest on top of the cap.

Never an issue in 30 years of shooting, hunting and carrying a shotgun or rifle.

put you hammer on the nipple with the rifle unloaded, put a cap on it, and see what it takes to make the cap go off.

Well, when it's resting on top of the cap on my rifle, it's not at half-cock. I'll try to tap it with a leather hammer to see if it'll go off and keep you posted.

Leather....A really thick piece of saddle type leather.....20" thick.....The cap will not fire even if the hammer is dropped from full cock. tie a lanyard to it and tie to the trigger guard....it is held against the nipple by the hammer and falls away when you cock the gun exposing the cap.

That was suppose to be 0.20" thick not
20"thick....
I suspect thinner leather will also do the job....

I use the leather tied to my trigger guard on all my rifles. Simple and cheap, also keeps moisture out. :v

I like Clyde's idea, but I use a square of rubber from an old truck tube.......robin :hmm:

Actually I take it one step further....That piece of leather is also a leather capper....So it severs double duty.
