22reloader sells them. I am told there are plans on the internet available. There was also someone here experimenting with making one and it was suggested he make and sell them here. I borrowed one from a fellow shooter.Just wondering...why hasn't any of the major reloading companies produce a cap making machine? How much would you pay for one? Or, your local gun range, club or group of similar minded shooters. Think you could get your money back on the purchase price? You betcha!
It’s been about a decade since I bought caps, Rem #10, but the packaging states it has 40% more flame volume than their previous design, and gives a little picture to show you the difference. I’ve used them shooting Triple 7 and Pyrodex and it works just fine. I prefer Olde Eynsford myself and one day will try Swiss. I prefer black powder as well.Posted this on another thread, but it might apply here.
Did an un-scientific test years ago with various caps by measuring the distance each cap would launch a light piece of plastic (some would call it a sabot) out of a barrel. The 1075+ showed significant more power and consistency than the 1075 and other caps. Although I have and use other caps, the 1075+ has been my choice since.
As a note, I personally only use blackpowder unless I am experimenting at the range, but if I were shooting a sub that requires more heat to light up than blackpowder, I would want the strongest cap I could obtain. My simple testing suggested the 1075+ would be the best choice. Unfortunately, you may not have a choice in the caps and powder you can obtain.
They seem like the best idea going right now, but $25 for 200 empty caps is a little pricey when you already have caps. $15 but seems like it would be about max IMOView attachment 320995
They look like this after firing.
Someone comes up with the paperwork to produce these charged they are gonna do well I suspect.
I hope you aren't calling me a liar. Here is a picture of my order that was shipped on May 12 from Cabelas in Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin to New Mexico.Cabelas doesn't even ship caps to my knowledge and have heard others state the same thing I found some rem #10 and 11 at shydas outdoor center in Lebanon, PA but I don't think they ship out of state so I couldn't get them $8 and limit 3
He's mine shipped May 12 from Wisconsin.I tried them and they show out of stock maybe its your local store.
Good grief, how old are they? I started buying caps in 1980, they were. 99c per tin.Still have boxes (sleeves) of 12 tins of caps marked $1.99. Thats $1.99/1200= $0.001658 each. Gonna put them in my will.
Anyone else Think this is negatively affecting the hobby at this point?https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/88987
Just looked this up on Grafs site a couple of minutes ago
What did they cost?So the one thousand that arrived at my house last week don't exist? I think you are on drugs, not me.
$30/lb powder/7000 grains per lb/ 90 grain charge/ 77.77 loads per lb = .38 per load powder.Ok so at these prices what's the average cost per round to shoot rb's in my custom percussion .54?
Seems like it will be a buck a round soon. Glad i too stocked up long ago. Newbies will bear the brunt and ML in general seems to be suffering. Overheard several folks at recent shows saying they were going to quit when their supplies ran out. Other said its flat too expensive to even start. $30/lb is now well over 10 times what we paid in group buys pre 2000.$30/lb powder/7000 grains per lb/ 90 grain charge/ 77.77 loads per lb = .38 per load powder.
Grafs 3 tin limit with shipping and hazmat = .21 each +\-
So there’s 59 cents per load less the roundball, patch and lube. If you cast your own depending on lead source that will probably make your total somewhere in the neighborhood of around.70
Per load. I have caps and powder from the 70’s/80’s and lead that was given to me so I’m around 10 cents per or less. I have blue paper sleeves of caps, RWS 1075, marked as Navy Arms. Life is good.
I’m pretty much set for life with what I currently have. Plus I have my choice of percussion or flint. Have every thing I need to make my own thanks to 22reloader on the percussion side. Able to make my own flint’s for the rock locks as well. Not very pretty but they work.Seems like it will be a buck a round soon. Glad i too stocked up long ago.
