Remember I had a gun I was having problems with. Here's a couple shots after I stripped, sanded and put new finish on. Put the black fade on there to hide a couple flaws, otherwise I wouldn't have put it on.
I really don't want my method of this finish to be Aired and scrutenized. So if you want to know what it is for yourself to know. PM ME I will let you know.

I like the color going to do a Henry and Sons trade rifle with plain maple think that would look good on it will send you a message
 
I would keep it a secret, for your heirs' sake. Centuries from now, your guns might well turn out to be the Stradivariouses of muzzleloaders!
