Did you look at the link I posted? It's only $160 and looks pretty nice. It will get you started.

That's a good gun, I have that model in Lefty from Deer Creek for my son,,the slow twist is nice,, Dustins gun is a tack driver. He out shoot's the man that taught him every so often, a great compliment to the teacher.

Don't let the single trigger throw ya off, there's a screw on the tumbler you can adjust for trigger break, you can set that screw for a 1/4 pound pull if you want too!!

I replaced the rear sight with a CVA/Trad pistol sight so I could have elevation adjustment and a thicker target style front blade.

Hello, I did, and I thank you.

I'm going through my modern guns right now to see if there's something I'd be willing to part with to get the money.

Thanks!

Josh

Typical Traditions/CVA lock,
Strong leaf spring lock. They stamp the parts out and don't spend alot of time finishing the edges, but the fit is good.
A complete dis-assembly (easy to do) and polishing of the lock parts is recomended for a really smooth action.
The only trouble I've ever had is my own fault and that's not cleaning my storage oils out of the flash channel proper.
We've had this gun for 9 years. I've offered Dustin the option of replacing it a few times, but he always say's "Why?". The vous we were at this past weekend I took 2nd, he took 3rd ( it was a 4-way sudden death tie breaker, I beat him by one shot )

Any parts that may need replacement are readily available from Traditions or Deer creek,,,*bay.

Well, my plan is to build a nice gun from a TOTW kit. I bought the Traditions to have something to use during my build. Then i'll keep it as a backup, or let friends use.

Here it is. I posted the link above for OP, but he passed on it. I didn't. It has pretty nice wood. Better than what the GPR had that I ordered and sent back. What kind of load do you think it will like? I use PRB and Swiss 2F.

I hope it's in as good a shape as the seller say's. The gun new is over 325 currently (09 DeerCreek catalog)(but new is new).

Dustins target load is; 55grn of 2F T7 (much the same as swiss) under a 490 ball with a tight .020 cut at the muzzle denim patch lubed 1-7 Dutch style.
If you dont have Dutch Shoultze BP accuracy system I'd highly recomend it, it's simply the best way to get everything possible out of any bp gun for accuracy.

I wouldn't hessitate to use this load on White Tail, I would not feel the need to "up the charge" at all.

When ya get it, post on the Gun Builders bench with questions about "Tuning" or "Polishing the Lock", several of us will walk ya through it.

I liked it over the new ones because of the twist. Plus it seems to have nice wood.

I'll post about the lock for sure. I've always tuned my C&B revolvers. I like doing stuff like that.

I like that it will shoot a light load. My shoulder will like it too. :)

Capper, I guess I'd want to argue somebody down to at least $125, and if I could, I'd shoot for $100. From friends, I gather these are pretty good shooting pieces, but I know you can get one cheaper..Hank

Too late. I already payed him for it.

If it shoots good and doesn't break. I'll be happy with it.

I'll be watching for your thread on lock tuning also. I just picked up the exact same rifle at an Estate sale yesterday. I haven't done anything with it yet but I will be refinishing it for sure. The fit and finish on mine leaves a lot to be desired.
Here's mine.

Looks good from a distance Dave.

I guess i'm not expecting too much from it. Guns get a little banged up hunting. That's all I want it for.

Not that i'm going to mistreat it. I couldn't do that to any gun.

Who knows? The gun might surprise me and i'll love it.

As long as I can hit what I'm aiming at, I'll be happy with mine. I've read several posts on this gun and other Traditions rifles and they have a reputation for being pretty good shooters. Good luck with yours and maybe we can compare the performance of them later on. I'm definately going to burn some powder with it before I tear it down for refinishing (Winter project). This one was a wall hanger so the bore is in great shape.

Mine has been shot and hunted, but he seemed to take good care of it. He gave me a lot of info on it, and I don't think i'll have any problems.

It's already killed deer, so it knows the way.

I like the finish on yours and it's always nice to have a hunter do the sight work ahead of time. The front sight on my gun is installed backwards. Just one item on an already long list of things to correct.

Take a look at www.ktpguns.com , just click on muzzleloading longarms under action and whichever caliber you would prefer. Decent prices and a pretty fair assessment of condition. They'll ship anywhere in the US that it is legal to ship to and they have plenty of choices.
