I just tonight Spoke to A well known fella in Tx that is highly regarded here on this site, He and his wife. He said - A extreme detailed test was given with all aspects of the test being equal. The Swiss was regarded as top performing,Goex slightly under and then German …. the OE was at the bottom of the bunch. The Well known examiners held the exam in Tx and then after seeing results, they wanted another exam done in Indiana. Same results. This test results I’m sure can be looked up and found as it was done by the Largest Muzzleloader community associations- he named them yet I don’t recall.
Not certain I remember the result details exactly as he told me ….Yet I Do know …he said OE was at the bottom for performance as surprising as that is. That being said, I just bought two lbs as well. I’m sure it will be sufficient. My preference is the FFg Goex for my 58. Yet in this Environment, one can not be to particular in what is acquired.

Guess I’ve become a hoarder I’ve got around 30 pounds laid up and around 8000 percussion caps. Could use some musket caps though.
Anyone local want to trade percussion for musket. Four wing

one tine RWS 1075+ for 1 tin musket
2 tins CCI #11 for 1 tin musket.
The RWS are 250 caps to a tin.
I’ll also trade 3F for 2F. Pound for pound.

If you want to do some trading - it would help if we knew where you are. Finishing your profile information would help a lot.
Shipping is not on the menu... Hand to hand trading would be.

And that is not hoarding - it's called being prepared.

Rhode Island East Bay Area.
The hoarding was me being flippant.
And thanks for the profile hint. I’ll do that now.

I’m prepared- At least for a good while. Mold/caps and powder should last me many years. I don’t shoot all that much.

I’ll acquire the Swiss someday. Or perhaps the Goex line will be purchased by someone. I’m willing to bet it will be.

What other question was answered- thank You for the welcome. Very nice forum full of knowledgeable people

I’ll try the OE- FFF this holiday season when with family. Yet that will be time consuming, New powder-Dropping charge and working back up. Supposed to burn as Clean as the Swiss.

As for me I’m a “plinker” type shooter with primarily revolvers and one old ACW carbine. Dirty is dirty and the most accurate loads are rarely the highest velocity ones. I suspect many shooters here can do just as well on the lower priced powders, more bangs for my buck is my aim. And where possible buy American.
Hunters and competition shooters that’s a different style altogether.

I bought a couple pounds of OE at Dixon’s this summer. I tried it for the first time today. OE shot consistently 5” higher groups than regular Goex. I have no explanation. Both were 2f.

I seen a suggestion to reduce and work up.

Not sure about it…. As I also was told it produced slower fps in the testing I stated in previous post.

OE was developed to challenge Swiss on the premium BP market. OE gives higher velocities than Goex but generally a little slower than Swiss. The question now is whether any Goex powders will manufactured now that the plant has closed. OE is by all rights a superior powder.

From the recent test done in Tx and Indiana by the large Associations , The OE May burn cleaner, and may be more consistent………

Yet performance of OE is below All others. The test was done in the exact closest of tolerance per each powder. Same Guns,shooter,temperature/ you name it… it was identical.

I’ll see if I can find the test and details
