I'm looking at a .54 caliber rifle that was made in Olney Texas. Has anybody got any information about the rifle? I can't find a thing.
I had a rifle just like this one only in .50 cal about 5 years ago. Paid $125 for it, but as with practically everything else--prices usually go up!
FWIW, I had no problems with mine. The internal "lock" was very simple and reliable (at least mine was). I did think it was kind of flimsy looking inside, and the receiver is only brass, and rather small in size... but like I said--no problems.
It would shot fairly well with conicals (LEE R-E-A-L worked nicely), but I had other guns that could shoot as good or better, so it wasn't a very big deal. Apparently a lot of people think these are "target" rifles. Well, you couldn't prove it by me, but I guess the right combination of load components maybe could've worked great.
I think they are over rated myself, yet people will pay for them. I sold mine about 2 years ago for $250, so either I had a fish on the line, or someone just wanted it badly enough.
Deer Creek Products was "manufacturing" the latest version of these "Mowrey" guns, but I hear they are always backordered and/or hard to get.
Despite my seemingly good fortune with my Mowrey gun, I can't (in good faith) recommend it either way for you... so that ought to tell you how indifferent I really was to the gun... but it did make me a little spending money when I was done with it.
Regards, and shoot safely!
