If you get this project looking good in the end that will count as your first miracle on the road to sainthood.

Here is where the rifle is right now.

I would save every one I could find if I could.

One thing I would do if you plan on shooting that gun is to replace the ramrod or just use a range rod. Factory ramrods on those were known for breaking. At the very least I would give the ramrod a thorough inspection and treat it gently.

A great project, especially considering this was something owned by a dear friend! :thumb:

When I did a complete rebuild on my Pedersoli Frontier I had just a few areas I had not drastically removed wood on and had to get the stain off. I purchased Zinsser StripFast Furniture Refinisher and did a great job of getting all the old stain off. I'm sure lots of brands of the same kind of stuff would work fine.

Taking a production gun and doing a rebuild is a fun project and it's amazing just what kind of beautiful gun can be hidden under what is usually too much wood and thick finishes.

Here's a link to the posts I made during my Frontier's transformation. Final pics on page 3.

"You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" however you have proven that old proverb wrong. I love doing that. :)
One material I have found useful when needing spacers etc is polymer clay. You can make it any color and it gets baked in the oven to harden it. On the Jaeger I restored I needed something to match the black horn trigger guard and polymer clay filled the bill perfectly.
