I've been a big fan of pairs of topless Italian guns for most of my life..

A buddy of mine was complaining about how hard it was to load his ROA. So he brought it over and I discovered that he was loading .490” ball in that gun. He’d already fired at least 2 cylinders before he brought it up. Nothing was bent or stretched that I could see… that’s the benefit of a stout design and proper material.

I hear ya, there's a big difference between the two though. One's almost nonexistent in the front, the other is quite stout!! The top strap on one is skinny and then has a large groove down the middle of it, the other is thick and solid like a Blackhawk. One can handle Ruger only's, the other . . . not so much.

The Colts looked neater but the Remingtons were a whole lot stronger with their top strap.

I'm not convinced of that the Remingtons were any stronger.

Keep em loaded, them Kansas Red legs could swoop back in any day.......

I assume they're .44 cal, with such short barrels do they Buck much with ordinary loads ?

Its been often said that the 1860 Colt Army is the most pointable Pistol of it era, I have a Uberti repro and have to agree.

How so? I've never bent an open top loading it but I have bent a Remington.

Mike you were telling me on the phone that a Colt was stronger than a Remington, is that what you were referring to? Are you sure you didn't have a cheater bar?

Holy Moly! The bullets must have looked more the shape of a cylinder rather than a ball coming out of the barrel. Wow! Talk about a press fit.

Nice. Could you tell us about the birds head grip on the bottom pistol. Did you do that or was it made that way? I like the look on the originals but havnt seen one on a repro gun. Thanks.

That’s not just shaving a ring of lead…that’s a Purist’s wedding band!!

I see. Thanks. Didnt know anyone produced one. I could imagine its not the most comfortable grip but it looks real cool on that pistol.

Just made a slim Jim holster for an 1860 Army (my personal favorite also) for my cousin.
came out OK, I'm doing a tooled flint wallet this week.

It’s pretty obvious when they’re laying side by side. That Ruger frame is stout. But so is the cylinder, etc, etc. overbuilt by a very large margin.

I have a Walker that needs lots of work. I have been thinking of doing this to it. You may have just pushed me over the edge.
