Geetings all,
I had a good day in the woods for Opening Day of Grouse season, Only saw 1 bird but it was still a great day to be out in the woods.

Great pic. Must be nice to be hunting already. Grouse doesn't open here until September 15th.

Nifty looking smooth bore. Did you tack the tartan sling to the stock?
Can you give me any information about your gun?

Lucky guy to be in Alaska. I'm one of many lower 48ers who dream of living there.

Shoot safely.

Yes, I tacked to tartan sling to the gun.
It is a 20ga smoothbore, the barrel is 22" long.
It has a LOTT lock and was made by the late Curly Gostompski ( not sure the spelling) when he owned NorthStar West. I bought it mostly for trail walks, but have found it patterns well with #7 1/2 Shot out to 20-25 yards. It is light and handy in the woods. I installed a rear sight for shooting PRB, it groups very well for a short barrel gun 2-3" at 35 yards. I took a moose with it several years ago. With the short barrel you can reload on the run real easy.

That might come in handy, when carrying a fowler in griz' country. :rotf:

Congratulations on a good day field.

Awww... You just HAD to rub it in, didn't ya? I can't get out there till Wednesday.

Nice grouse, and beautiful little flintlock!

Congrats. I wish I was up there right now. Fishing for silvers ought to be pretty hot right now in your parts. A grouse or two in the pot would be a bonus.

Great idea to tack the sling to the stock. I've never thought of that before.
Good shooting. Thanks for the information.

Wish we had more birds here... Our season opens for Ruffed on Oct. 15.

Nice.

Lots of memory's chasing these birds when I was young. They are pretty much gone from here now unfortunately.

Did you build the smooth bore yourself? I like the short barrel and pewter and brass trimings. Thanks for posting the pictures.

No I did not build it, It was made by Northstar West in 1991. It is all iron mountings with the pewter nose cap.
