I have been looking at the Hawken pistol from Track of the Wolf and really like it alot. I would like to know if anyone here has one of these pistols or seen one up close. I don't have much experience with muzzleloading pistols so any infomation on the type of accuracy I could expect would be much appreciated.

If you are asking about this
HAWKEN PISTOL KIT

I will first mention that building a pistol from one of these kits is almost as much work as building a rifle from one of the rifle kits.
If you wish to checker the grip it can end up being more work than building a plain rifle.
Plan on spending a minimum of 90 hours on it before it is done.

That said, all of the components are high quality "Made in America" parts that will work very well.

The accuracy the gun is capable of will depend on the shooter. Pistols of any type are not easy to master but if your a good shot with a modern pistol then you should have good success with one of these.

I have had mine for aboout 15 years. Bought it used...but know the people that built it. Mine doesn't have a set trigger, but is a great shooter. Best 25 yard target I have is scored a 46-2x.

I completed my Hawken pistol (.54cal) back in '81 and have found it a lot of fun to shoot, as well. Heartily agree with Zonie, though, it's as much time to build as a full sized rifle, and then some. I had a gunsmith do the checkering for me, too. It's a good looking, faithful recreation of the originals! mjw

Here's a pistol I built a few years ago, from parts. The Track pistol should be pretty easy to put together. This group was with 35 grains of Goex 2F with a .520 ball at 25 yards from rest, five shots, velocity 659 fps mean for five shots, 14 fps spread.

scalper - Some always go for the best butt!!! Kidding aside, fitting the butt plate took a considerable amount of finessing - careful filing and really accurate drilling to properly locate the pin hole to secure it in place. Thanks for the positive comments mjw

I'd buy one of those kits iff I werent two
thumbed...midne would end up lookin like a
something made in Pakastan.....or even worse...

i don't know which i like better, the photography or the subject.

you do excellent depth and focus with really good natural lighting, shadow detail, and saturation.

oh, the pistol is a work of art too.

To both scalper and LeMat1856: Thanks for your most appreciated comments! Scalper - the Hawken pistol was my number 4 gun building project, way back in 1981. I've made several since then. currently have a matched set of flint Kentucky pistols on the workbench and last year completed a flint So. Mountain rifle in .45 cal. Picked up all the makings at Dixon's this summer for a Bucks Co. / A. Verner styled flint longrifle I recently saw on TOW. Got a good deal on a Getz .50 cal swamped 45" barrel to build it around, too! LeMat1856 - Pics were taken outside in the yard on a partly cloudy day with a Nikon D70 equipped with a macro lens that really puts out excellent sharp close-ups; then a little image tinkering with MS Digital Image Suite to polish and frame 'em. Again, I appreciate the kudos! mjw

Think it's so good looking I wanta hide my Hawken .54 pistol I made from parts way back in the safe. It was my second project, & it shoots OK, but does not win matches. 'Bout the time I got it done, Lyman came out w/ their pistol at a cost less than what I spent for parts!
