That is a Carolina gun made in England. It has nothing to do with Virginia other than they were used there...and everywhere else.
Good book, but beware it's full of errrors. This book has been talked about before, but For Trade and Treaty is a great overall historical reference of the trade guns.
"For Trade and Treaty" is a good place to start. TOW sells it. Take a look at Clay Smiths website, he has many different Trade gun kits from early to late. @Rob M. builds beautiful Trade Guns, he has posted many photos and details of his wonderful work. He would be a good resource for you.Comfortably what books do you recommend...?
Better yet what advice do you have for a correct piece..?
Making these is my new hobby. Plus I have my wife's blessings....

Yes, I have a build thread going in the Smoothbore Forum.Did you get this kit yet? I was looking online at them today.
Yes, after talking to him.Did you order from Clay's website?
You are a very lucky Man!The way you guys make these guns they are definitely an investment and could be sold for way more than the money you have in them, eventually. My wife realizes that quality firearms are indeed an investment that most likely will appreciate and actually encourages me to acquire them.
