My Wife & I just got home from a lecture by the "Historical Society of Cheshire County" held this evening at the old Wyman Tavern in Keene, NH. the subject was "Gunmakers of Cheshire county, 1780-1880". VERY interesting, and besides being able to handle pieces from the society's collection, 2 local collectors brought some examples from their personal collections. some of these guns were documented Militia pieces used by local residents, and a few were known to be carried by Keene residents who volunteered for Berdan's sharpshooters in the civil war. There was a lot of history in that building tonite, and it was a very appropriate venue for such a presentation, since the wyman Tavern was the meeting place of the local Minute Men who marched to Boston to take part in the battle of Bunker hill.
I hope you enjoy these pics:

I sure would like to see that Fancy Silver mounted rifle and the one under it, in the top photo.

The T/C "C" shaped scroll at the end of their trigger guards in interesting.

I really enjoyed the pics, thanks ! Saw a fine rifle in one of the group shots.

Many people don't realize that NH had a lot of very talented gun makers back in the day. The underhammer design was very popular here. Thanks for sharing. By the way I live in Laconia, wish I could have gotten down to Keene to see those fine arms.

I'm with all the rest, wished I knew about it as well. Only about an hour from me. Those are some pretty fine looking guns.

There was a lot of water power in New Hampshire and Vermont, with the Connecticut River and its many fast moving tributaries running through them, so they were both great places for gun shops. And a lot of talented men came from the area and made use of its resources. Fine quality sporting guns were readily available and target rifles of incredible accuracy could be ordered from many of these makers. The quality of these rifles was so fine that a great many are still used to this day.
