I was looking for this picture that Curly G. gave Hanson years ago. I couldn't say if it is correct or not, but interesting to look at. When one looks at the different suppliers, some have used these pictures, just changed the verbiage.

Wonder if you can bore out a 20 gauge Colerain barrel to a 16 and still have enough meat to be safe?

Kevin, a few years back I ordered barrels from Colerain, some 44" and some 46". Their outside profile on the 20 is the same as their 16 so you end up with a barrel that is about a half pound lighter.
 
Ken Netting was making some proper barrels at one time. Rob Miller was using them, and turning out 40" guns that were in the 5-5.5# range. Stock contour and thickness also a contributing factor. Lawyers get involved with liability, and throws everything out of whack.
