Hi thanks for all the replies guys :) I will get some more info when I next see him and when I get my single shot percussion pistol I will try just bp in it with different patch thicknesses and see how it goes and then decide if I do the same as my friend :) great source of info guys very much appreciated
Thanks

Rick

No one seemed to mention that corn meal stinks while burning. Although I am from the North my wife is from Mississippi and I grown fond of grits.

But Raw, at least burning corn meal has some character which is wholly absent from grits. To crush it as filler and sacrifice it to the purifying flames of burning powder is the highest purpose it can possibly serve evolved men.

I keep telling you guys, Alden got bit by the Grits Gremlin when he was a child and it affected his sense of normalcy! :rotf:

I feel the same about Cream of Wheat. Good filler, but not fit for consumption by anyone but gummers in the old folks home who have lost all sense of taste and are well on their way to the afterlife.

Not that I know of. Has Robin Williams been trying to expose the evil that is grits to the unwashed masses?

I can't be the only one with greater love for my unknown fellow man than a primarily southerner's parent for its own offspring... Can I?

I came up with a slogan: "Just say no to grits except for chicken chow, ethanol, and blackpowder chamber filler." Catchey!?

Love cream of wheat, with lumps,i'm the only one that eats it,i make enough for 4,butter and plenty of sugar, have one hot bowl and put the rest in the fridge and it it like candy the rest of the day or two...Only becuase i can't get Maypo anymore!!! :)

Ok, If we load with BP, fill with a combination of powdered coffee and grits, or cream of wheat, and lube our patch with bacon fryings, we can have an instant breakfast, with one shot,LOL.........Robin :stir:

Oh, Alden, I'll bet that when you were a little boy, every day your mama had to stop your daddy from drowning you in the commode. Now sit down and eat your grits. Little kids in Georgia are going to bed hungry. :blah: :blah: :blah:

One day out club was having a cross sticks shoot. That day I was shooting my .45/120 which I had loaded with black powder and topped it off with grits as a filler. The wind was to our face and the smoke was blowing back across the line. One of the guys asked me what I was shooting. I told him I was shooting black powder with grits as a filler. He said "I was wondering why I was getting so damned hungry." :rotf: :rotf:

I can take or leave the lumps but they don't slow me down at all. Salt, pepper and butter or cream and sugar, delicious either way. I like the left overs sliced and fried the next day. Yum-O!!

Poor Alden.....the kid just ain't right. He may lick windows and make disparaging remarks about grits but he's not a bad guy. But, after what he has said about grits, we do need to pray for his soul. :rotf: :rotf:

'course there are a lot of things people use for filler and many have been recommended here. Same philosophy used by early natives in America and on "little surprises" in trailer parks to this day... grits take up space.

But shame on Ma Billnpatti! No matter how hungry her imp was on grits alone, lead paint chips were not a good (albeit colorful, crunchy, and more flavorful as well as nutritious) addition.

Custard powder? Custard powder??? Get out of here. :youcrazy: Are you pulling my leg? :haha: :haha: It's best to stick to grits, cornmeal or Cream of Wheat as God intended.

Okay, Alden, behave yourself and eat your grits like the big boys and maybe, just maybe, you may not have to ride the short bus any longer. :blah: Grits, God's gift to mankind. :rotf:

Hi all what about custard powder? will that work as a filler?

Rick
It will work but I must add, using custard powder comes with a warning. Don't use it all.

Years ago, a well known American who's business was highly popular used custard powder as a buffer in his firearms.

He accidentally ended up using every last bit so none was available for making more custard.

This greatly upset his clients to the point that they went on a rampage and slaughtered all of the employees including the owner.

Even today people still remember "Custard's Last Stand".
