Packing Peanuts?

I received a package from TOW today and it was full of barrel shaped packing peanuts. As I was dumping them in the garbage, I wondered if they might work as shotgun wads. They were too small for my twelver, but fit pretty snug in my 20 bore. Might try it, whatever. FWIW

I'd put a lighter to one. My guess is it would burn and drip like melted plastic. Maybe not, but if it does that would not be good for the bore!

Interesting idea! Make sure they are not foam based. I’d try to burn one first.

Agree with trying a burn/melt test. Likely extruded polystyrene, aka Styrofoam.

Well, I put a lighter to one. It didn't melt, just kinda burned to a small cinder.

You may have to put a over powder medium like corn meal or wheatlets.

Run some water on one. If it melts it's not synthetic.

I loved the old Styrofoam ones, every class of recruits I had to demonstrate Molotov cocktails [the local drink] The ones with a big bag melted into the gasoline then made self-igniting were the impressive ones. All, .Gov approved.

I ate one of the non synthetic ones. I believe they are rice based. "Green" peanuts that are white lol

Guys over at the British Military Forums sometimes use foam backer rods for 577/450 M-H. Doesn't melt.​
