I’ve seen Northwest trade guns painted blue and red. Were any of them painted black that we know of?

We know the British painted marine guns with an asphaltum finish, so it's possible, but that's an awfully low-grade finish for a trade gun.

The Rolling Stones had theirs painted black. Yes they are that old.

Back on topic, I’ve not seen or heard of trade guns painted black. But black with yellow vines painted on would look good. Creative, fun, not replicating historical examples.

I’ve seen red African flintlock trade muskets. I’ve painted plain maple stocks with no grain pattern to speak of. A nice stock I wouldn’t paint.
