After fighting tooth and nail (still) with the 1858 Remington, at least I finally got to shoot it.

211019-006 1858 Remington cap and ball 20 gr FFFG rev C.jpg

Nothing to write home about. 20 gr FFFG (Hodgdon P) at 16 paces, wrist rest, no smacked knuckles though. The feal fun was when I shot at steel targets. I love that clang when it hits and I can't see how really a pi** shot I am.

Big fan of the clang of steel, too. I have a Remington 1858, as well. Make sure you are letting the pinky of your firing hand hang below the grip. You'll have your hand aligned better and won't get as many smacked knuckles.

Defitnatly steel, there's nothing much better then steel, although in about a week there will be a surplus of pumkins that make great targets. I generally shoot them with my golf ball cannon using homemade sabated D cell batteries. It really destroys those Jack O Lanterns. We leave them where they lie because the deer will eat what's left.
